About Mercedes

Mercedes Moné: The CEO of Professional Wrestling and Beyond

Mercedes Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks, is a versatile force across multiple industries—actress, rapper, designer, entrepreneur, and wellness advocate. A wrestling icon, she has broken barriers throughout her career, becoming the first woman to headline a pay-per-view (PPV) event and the first Black woman to main event WrestleMania, propelling the Women’s Evolution in wrestling. In addition to her ESPY Award and starring role in The Mandalorian, she continues to shape the future of professional wrestling, most recently signing a historic deal with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and disrupting the industry in 2024.
Mercedes, aptly dubbed “The CEO” for her revolutionary role in professional wrestling, is unstoppable. Raised in Boston, her passion for wrestling was ignited by her admiration for Eddie Guerrero, whose energy, charisma, and in-ring storytelling left a lasting impression. Attending Guerrero’s tribute show on Monday Night Raw remains a cherished moment, one that fuels her determination to honor his legacy with every match she competes in.
Coming from an entertainment dynasty, Mercedes has made her own mark. With cousins like rap legend Snoop Dogg, music producer Daz Dillinger, and singers Brandy Norwood and Ray J, Mercedes has cemented herself as a standout in her own right. Her infectious energy and rich cultural background resonate deeply with fans from all walks of life. Off the mat, Mercedes embraces her love for Japanese culture and anime, especially Sailor Moon. She famously paid homage to her fandom by donning Sailor Moon-inspired gear at the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble.

Mercedes Moné has continually redefined what it means to be a wrestling icon. She shattered barriers by competing in the first-ever Women’s Iron Man match and headlining NXT TakeOver: Respect in 2015. In 2021, she once again made history, becoming the first African American woman to headline WrestleMania alongside Bianca Belair. This monumental match not only elevated women’s wrestling but was a defining moment for women of color on the biggest stage in the world.

Her international success soared to new heights in 2023 when she made her debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) under her new persona, Mercedes Moné. In her very first match with NJPW, she captured the prestigious IWGP Women’s Championship.

2024 Accomplishments and Beyond

2024 has been another milestone year for Mercedes Moné. Continuing her reign as one of the most dominant forces in professional wrestling, Mercedes successfully defended her IWGP Women’s Championship at several high-profile events, further solidifying her status as a global champion. Mercedes won the AEW TBS Championship in her in-ring debut and soon after, she became double champion when she became NJPW Strong Women’s Championship defeating Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door.

In addition to her in-ring accomplishments, Mercedes continued to build her brand outside of wrestling. In 2024, she released her first single “CEO”- which is aptly played as her entrance song at all AEW events, she launched her digital magazine Moné Mag, and continues to add more and more to her growing empire.
Beyond championships and business ventures, Mercedes has become a leading advocate for wrestler empowerment, continuing to push for creative freedom within the industry. In 2024, she spearheaded discussions within AEW about wrestler representation and creative control, playing a pivotal role in reshaping the future of professional wrestling. Her efforts have paved the way for more inclusive contracts and opportunities, empowering fellow wrestlers to take ownership of their careers.
Mercedes’ list of accolades continues to grow. She was named Sports Illustrated Wrestler of the Year in 2020, Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) Woman of the Year in 2015, and has won multiple Slammy Awards throughout her career. Her numerous accomplishments from 2024 alone are proof that whether she’s fighting for a championship, expanding her business empire, or gracing the silver screen, Mercedes consistently proves that there are no limits to what she can achieve.
As “The CEO,” Mercedes Moné is not just leaving a legacy—she’s rewriting the playbook for what it means to be a true superstar. And rest assured, she’s only just getting started.
